As part of efforts to address the institutional capacity needs of the Nigerian Legislature, a partnership on possible support mechanism between critical United States legislative agencies and the National Institute for Legislative Studies (NILS) has been proposed. At a meeting, which was attended by six relevant interest groups, including staff from the United States House of Representatives, Congressional Research Service, National Democratic Institute, International Republican Institute, Congressional Black Caucus Foundation and House Democracy Partnership and the National Institute for Legislative Studies, the stakeholders agreed on the need for collaboration and synergy. Speaking at the meeting, the Director General NILS, Dr. Ladi Hamalai called on the delegation to consider areas of support that would promote institutional development of NILS and enhance capacity development of the legislature and democratic institutions in Nigeria. Giving a background on the functions and the general knowledge management activities of NILS, the DG disclosed that between January and September 2016, over 76 Bills were drafted by NILS.
